Bowen Technique

"Whenever I've had any back or neck problems, the Bowen technique has always successfully put an end to them as well as aligning my body and increasing my energy. I can't recommend it highly enough."
Jerome Flynn, Actor

Simply stated, the Bowen Technique is a therapy that allows the body to reset and heal itself. The work consists of a series of gently rolling, connective tissue moves, aiming to balance and stimulate energy flow. There are frequent important pauses between these moves which give the body time to benefit from each set. By combining moves, both in placement and in combination, the practitioner is able to address the body as a whole, or target a specific problem.

Bowen technique is referred to as a 'complementary' therapy. This means it will enhance and complement, not interfere with, other medical attention. However, some additional therapies undertaken at the same time may alter Bowen's effects.

"Quite simply on of the most straightforward and effective 'hands-on' therapies available."
Jane Alexander, Daily Mail

Why Learn the Bowen Technique?

If you are currently a practicing therapist, the Bowen Technique is an essential tool. Bowen works very quickly and effectively with chronic and acute conditions and is one of the most effective therapy tools available. As well as being gentle on the client, the Bowen Technique is also very gentle on the practitioner as the light touch required makes minimal physical demands on the therapist.

Bowen History - Tom Bowen

From Geelong, Australia in 1916 - 1982, Tom Bowen had natural ability to treat people. With no formal medical training or complementary training he treated over 13,000 people a year. He allowed 6 osteopaths access to his work one morning a week. They recorded his techniques and began practising themselves and eventually teaching Tom Bowen’s technique to others. It is through the work of these people that the work of Tom Bowen has spread across the world today.

European College of Bowen Studies

The leading college in the Bowen Technique, the European College of Bowen Studies offers a comprehensive modular training structure. The college is unique with the amount of support available to students from the tutors throughout the training and after. Husband and wife team Julian Baker and Louise Attwill brought the Bowen Technique to Britain in 1994, and before long had established the college. They retain close ties with Tom Bowen’s family in Australia and have their full support in the development they bring to Tom Bowen’s work.
